MINNEAPOLIS — Dog ownership is at an all time high — during the pandemic, an estimated 11.38 million U.S. households acquired a new pet, according to Times Veterinary Business Magazine. Not only are more people caring for furry friends, they’re also seeking to share experiences. That’s why today Peace Coffee announces Pooch Coffee —a line of coffee just for dogs.
Pooch Coffee launches with three varieties: Bark Blend (notes of beef and roast poultry), Puppy Cuppa (wild venison with a hint of squirrel) and Heel!, a decaffeinated blend, especially for small breeds. Like all Peace Coffee, Pooch will be organic, and sustainably sourced from farmers who are also dog lovers. Pooch Coffee will be available for all good dogs online starting April 1, 2021.
“For many dog people, their wake up call is their furry friend nudging them out of bed for a morning walk,” says Lee Wallace, CEO and Queen Bean, Peace Coffee. “At Peace Coffee, we’re in it for good, so why shouldn’t that extend to good dogs too? We worked with a local vet to develop safe, canine-friendly coffee blends that appeal to dogs—like my pandemic pup Felix — giving their mornings the same lift we enjoy from our morning cup.”
The trend did not bypass organic, sustainable brand Peace Coffee — more than three-quarters of its staff welcomed a new dog over the past year as well. “Our team’s dogs have taste-tested each variety, sharing their preferences on aroma, sweetness, body and acidity,” adds director of marketing and interspecies outreach, Melanee Meegan. “Larger dogs prefer a darker, more full-bodied roast like Bark Blend, while smaller dogs really like lighter, fruitier aromas, and the decaffeination of Heel! We’ve learned a lot about the canine palate this year, and we look forward to introducing more new blends, including our double-caffeinated Shake and Fifi, a French roast formulated for poodles and purse-sized dogs.”
All Pooch Coffee purchases include an “In it for Good…Dogs” leash*, and a portion of the proceeds from sales will be donated to Minnesota animal rescue organization Secondhand Hounds.
Since 1996, Peace Coffee has been In It For Good…and For Good Dogs too. In its 25 years in business, Peace has purchased more than five million pounds of green coffee from small-scale farmer cooperatives in more than 12 countries. In 2019, ninety-eight percent of its coffee came from cooperatives that Peace Coffee has had relationships with for more than five years. Three cents a pound for every pound Peace Coffee buys goes into coffee climate and carbon initiatives. The socially conscious coffee roasting company is a Certified B Corp, bringing transparency to the coffee industry while delivering expertly roasted, small batch organic coffee (often via bicycle in the Twin Cities) to its many fans in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and the Chicago area. The beans for its blends come from farmer-owned cooperatives in Sumatra, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Peru, Ethiopia, Colombia, Congo, and Honduras.
*OK, sorry to yank your leash — but there IS no Pooch Coffee. Dogs should really just stick to water. April Fool! You can still buy the leash, however, and Peace Coffee will donate to Secondhand Hounds.
